First Day of School: September 1, 2020

Freshmen Only

 August 26, 2020

Greetings Parker Freshman and Families!

It is my pleasure to welcome you to Parker High School!  We are eager to have students back in the building and look forward to partnering with families over the next four years as you work towards high school graduation!

Undoubtedly, the start of school will look much different than it has in the past.  In addition to providing a top notch education, we are also working very hard to keep our school clean, safe and develop protocols to reduce the risk of exposure to Covid 19.  We will spend time the first week teaching everyone how to “do school” so that we can decrease as much risk as possible.   As we get closer to the start of the year, I would like to share some important information with you.

  • First Day, Freshman Only!  Tuesday, September 1st, will be freshman orientation.  Students will spend time learning about how our school operates, meet their teachers, and visit with our Link Crew student leaders who will support your freshman as you transition to being a Viking.  Specific details are included in this document.  If you are a hybrid student (some classes at ARISE Virtual and some at Parker) you should still plan to attend for the full day.  Please plan to arrive no earlier than 7:45; our regular school day is from 8:00 a.m. until 3:28 p.m.

  • Second Day, All Students!  Wednesday, September 2nd, will be for all students.  Students will attend all of their classes and additional information will be shared with students about school safety protocols.

  • Chromebooks and Cords  If you still have the Chromebook and cord that you were issued at your middle school, please bring it with you on September 1st.  We will collect these devices and send you home with a brand new one at the end of the day.

  • School Supplies We do not have a supply list.  Generally, students need folders, notebooks, pens and pencils.  Additional supply needs will be shared with students the first week of school.

  • School Safety We have been spending a great deal of time preparing for our return to school and making our school as safe as possible for everyone. We will be teaching all of these procedures September 1st and 2nd.

    • Masks- Students are expected to wear a mask at all times.  This is in accordance with our district mask policy.

    • Lunch- Students will have an assigned seat with a small group of students.  We have added multiple stations throughout the cafeteria to avoid lines and close contact.

    • Cleaning and Sanitizing- Hand sanitizing stations have been installed in all classrooms.  Additionally, students will be asked to wipe down their desk before using it.

    • Lockers- Hall lockers will be available by request.   Most students already carry their items in their backpacks.  Physical education classes will not be changing at this time.

    • Water fountains- Students should bring a water bottle with their name written on it.  Bottle fillers are to be installed in the building.

    • Online Learning- Should we need to move to online learning, we have plans in place to transition to this learning system.  Students will be educated on the Google Tools and other online resources that will be used.

    • Clubs, Activities and Athletics- Students will be able to participate in clubs and activities that can be delivered online.  Additionally, the WIAA has moved fall athletics to the spring. We will provide more guidance as it is available to us.

This school year will be much different than what we normally experience.  While I cannot predict what is ahead.  Please know that I am committed to working with you and your student to have a successful school year.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions.

Chris Laue, PHS Principal
