Sue Anne (Melaas) Green
Class of 1973
Sue Anne (Melaas) Green graduated from Parker High School in 1973. She was active in pom pons, water ballet, student council, Fidelis Service Club, and ski club. Green was an accomplished pianist, worked with several recreational facilities, and was active in her church. Her involvement with disabled adults through the YWCA, as well as with students in Parker’s special education department, led her to pursue a career in special education.
Green graduated from University of Wisconsin-Whitewater with a BS (1977) and MS (1982), emphasizing cognitive and emotional disabilities. She earned administrative licensing (2000) from UW-Madison in Special Education, Pupil Services, and School Principal.
After college, Green worked for KANDU industries before entering her career in education. In teaching and leadership positions in Beloit Turner, Janesville, CESA 2, and Beloit School District, her focus has always been on what is best for children. After serving the Beloit School District as the Director of Special Education, Green became principal of Wright Elementary School. She led her staff’s effort to raise standardized test scores and increase parent involvement. Improvements at Wright received recognition from the Wisconsin Superintendent of Schools.
Green’s personal, professional, community, and church activities have one thing in common: service to others through leadership. She has served on numerous state and school district committees and advisory boards, including the Merrill Neighborhood Committee and the Beloit Literacy Council. Green was one of the original partners of Duffy Community Partnership at Beloit College—an internship program which brings college students together with a variety of community partners in business, health care, education, social services, agriculture, and the arts.
